COD Beach Volleyball wraps up at PCAC Finals, sends “One’s” team to SoCal Regionals

COD wrapped up the 2018 season at the PCAC Finals, all but the "One's" team fell in the opening round for the Roadrunners and that "One's" team rolled to make the Conference quarterfinals and will be in the SoCal Regionals starting May 4th at Irvine Valley College.

The Pacific Coast Athletic Conference (PCAC) Individual Tournament took place at Warm Waters Beach in Carlsbad, with the first two rounds of play taking place on Wednesday and the final three rounds taking place on Friday.

The "Five's" team of sophomore Aaliyah Charley (Thermal Coachella Valley) and sophomore Ashley Schwartz (Yucca Valley H.S.) started things off, grabbing the #26 slot on the Conference bracket and facing the #7 seed, the "Three's" team from MiraCosta College, where the Roadrunners fell, 21-8 and 21-11.

The "Four's" team of freshman Naomi Garcia-Marquez (Rancho Mirage H.S.) and freshman Emily Sundback (Rancho Mirage H.S.) collected the #22 seed and faced off with the #11 seed, the "Three's" team from San Diego Mesa, where Desert fell, 21-15 and 21-11.

The "Three's" team of sophomore Alysha Garcia (Thermal Desert Mirage) and sophomore Marisol Ruiz (Thermal Desert Mirage) ran into the San Diego City "One's team, where the Roadrunners fell, 21-13 and 21-10.

The "Two's" team of freshman Baylie Dashner (La Quinta H.S.) and freshman Brooke Topliff (Rancho Mirage H.S.) secured the #17 seed and ran into the #16 seed, the "Two's" team from Palomar, where Desert fell, 21-18 and 21-13.

And then there was one, as the "One's" team of freshman Ashtyn Lyneis (Palm Springs H.S.) and freshman Nicole Svoboda (La Quinta H.S.) grabbed the #8 seed and faced the #25 seed, the "Four's" team from the San Diego City Knights, where the Roadrunners crushed the Knights, 21-9 and 21-9.

Immediately moving the Lyneis/ Svoboda team onto the next round, they faced the #9 seed, the "Two's" team from San Diego City, opening up with an absolute demolition of the Knights in the first set, 21-6 then City flipped the script and pushed back hard against Desert, taking set two 21-18. Forced into a winner take all set three, the Roadrunners fought back multiple times, eventually taking the match 16-14, getting Desert onto Friday.

The Lyneis/ Svoboda team opened up the PCAC Quarterfinals facing the top seed in the Conference, the "One's" team from the MiraCosta Spartans, where the Roadrunners fell, 21-10 and 21-14.

The appearance on Friday at the PCAC Quarterfinals put them into the top seven in the Conference an qualified the team of Lyneis/ Svoboda for the Southern California Regionals starting May 4th at Irvine Valley College.
