COD Beach Volleyball sends all 5 teams to PCAC Finals, Lyneis & Smith reach Quarterfinals

COD sent five pairs to compete in San Diego for the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference (PCAC) Pair's Title.

The team of freshman Kendal Faynor (British Columbia Semiahoo Secondary) and sophomore Naomi Garcia (Rancho Mirage H.S.) were placed 12th in the bracket and faced off against the team of Mariah Birkham and Jalesa Pondexter from San Diego Mesa. This was a tough match for the Roadrunners, as they toppled the Olympians in straight sets, 21-19 and 21-18. The next opponents for Faynor and Garcia were the San Diego City Knights, Montse Barron and Deeann Schall. Desert would take the battle to an extra set, but were eventually knocked off by the Knights, 21-19, 21-23, and 15-10.

The next pair representing Desert in San Diego was the team of freshman Kathleen Geiberger (Palm Desert H.S.) and sophomore Brooke Topliff (Rancho Mirage H.S.). In the first round, the Roadrunners were knocked off by the Grossmont Griffin's team of Shaney Lipscomb and Kylee Snyder, in two sets, 21-14 and 21-19. Desert's team of sophomore Shay Mesa (Indio Shadow Hills) and sophomore Nicole Svoboda (La Quinta H.S.) were also eliminated in the first round by the team of Julia Holden and Jamie Sakasegawa, another pair of Griffins, in straight sets, 21-17 and 21-8. The team of sophomore Baylie Dashner (La Quinta H.S.) and sophomore Emily Sundback (Rancho Mirage H.S.) were unable to make it out of the first round as they were knocked off by the team of Raven Casas and Alina Snyder from San Diego Mesa, in two sets, 21-10 and 21-16.

The team of sophomore Ashtyn Lyneis (Palm Springs H.S.) and freshman Kelsey Smith (Delta, BC South Delta Secondary) were placed 7th in the bracket and removed the team of Tori Hutton and Ciera Rens from San Diego Mesa in the first round, winning 21-12 and 21-10. In the second round, the Roadrunners continued their momentum, catching the Comets, Noemi Ramos and Mikayla Seller from Palomar, in two sets, 21-13 and 21-18. Desert would Lyneis and Smith reach the Quarter Finals where they were knocked off by the team of Kayla Boatright and Halie Hess from MiraCosta in a close two sets, 21-8 and 21-11.

COD Beach Volleyball will send the team of Ashtyn Lyneis and Kelsey Smith to the CCCAA SoCal Finals Pairs Championshp, which begins on May 3rd at Irvine Valley College.
