2018 Season in Review - COD Baseball

COD Baseball players, Nick Follett, Nathanael Tiaga, Joshua Hernandez and Jonathan Mejia were named All-Pacific Coast Athletic Conference.

Under the tutelage of first-year coach Chris Walters, Desert Baseball ended their second season in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference with a record of 12-28, overall and 9-15 in Conference, finishing eighth.

On the field, sophomore third-baseman Nick Follett (Toronto (ONT) Bishop Allen Academy) was named first team all-Pacific Coast Athletic Conference following his freshman-season honorable mention. He finished tops on the team and 10th in Conference in batting average, hitting .422 over the course of the 40 game season. He had 16 multi-hit games on the season, with six 3-hit games and ten 2-hit games, connecting on an impressive six home runs. Playing "the hot corner" almost every game of the 40 game season, Follett finished the season with .929 fielding percentage. Follett had his best all-around offensive game at home against Imperial Valley on March 29th, when he went 3 for 3 with two doubles, three runs scored.

Freshman outfielder Nathanael Tiaga (Indio Shadow Hills) was named honorable mention all-Pacific Coast Athletic Conference. He finished the season with .977 fielding percentage and was credited with turning fifteen double plays. At the plate, Tiaga connected on 40 hits, adding six doubles and two triples, his best all-around offensive game was at home versus Imperial Valley on March 29th, when he went 3 for 3 with three doubles and four runs scored.

Also named honorable mention was freshman outfielder Joshua Hernandez (Palm Desert H.S.). He made some big plays while only committing one error on his 38 games of the season. Hernandez had 30 runs and made it on base with a .401 average, grabbing six stolen bases on the season. He had power with a homerun, four doubles and a triple. He roped a ball out of the park during his best game, a 3 for 5 day at the plate, a home run, an RBI and three runs scored at Imperial Valley on March 27th.

Sophomore first-baseman Jonathan Mejia (Palm Desert H.S.) was named honorable mention all-Pacific Coast Athletic Conference. He was the only player to participate in all 40 games of the season taking fourth in conference with 301 putouts. Mejia stole base 9 times with six doubles and 44 hits. He was strong on the infield, making 28 double plays. Mejia had his best game at home against Mt. San Jacinto on April 21st, when he went 4 for 4 scoring three runs and a stolen base.
