COD Baseball: relief pitching struggles in the 8th, falls to Huskies, 16-8

COD (0-1) opened up 2019 at home and gave the home fans a great deal to cheer for, that was until the Roadrunners surrendered seven runs in the top of the 8th, falling to the East Los Angeles Huskies of Monterey Park (1-0), 16-8.
The game, which took over four hours to complete, could not have been more perfect for an opening day in the Coachella Valley, a prime example of why people move to the desert for, well, at least from November 1 to May 1. The Roadrunners received an remarkable amount of production from their 4-5-6 batters in the lineup, which went a combined 11 for 13 with 5 runs scored and 6 RBI's.
Sophomore third baseman Nathaniel Lopez (Palm Desert H.S.) started off his second season with the Roadrunners with an impressive day in the field and at the plate, going 5 for 5 with 3 RBI's, including a pair of doubles and a run scored.
Freshman first baseman Mario Ramirez (Rancho Mirage H.S.) opened up his baseball career with the Roadrunners, going 3 for 4 with four runs scored and an RBI and sophomore catcher Matthew Fisher (Redlands H.S.) went 3 for 4 with two RBI's on the afternoon.
