COD Baseball has trouble corralling the Wolverines, 16-2

COD (3-29; 1-15) surrendered big innings in the fifth and seventh, as the 4-5-6-7 batters went a combined 2 for 14 in the blustery afternoon sun, with the San Bernardino Valley Wolverines (13-18; 7-9), taking the contest 16-2.

The Roadrunners received some good production at the plate from freshman short stop Ryan Rodriguez (Rancho Mirage H.S.), who went 3 for 4 with a run scored out of the two hole in the lineup and sophomore designated hitter Matthew Fisher (Redlands H.S.), who went 2 for 3 with a walk out of the seven hole in the lineup, but little else happened for Desert.

The Wolverines would get onto the scoreboard first in the top of the first and then again in the top of the third, before Desert responded with a pair of runs to tie the game at 2-2.

Sophomore center fielder and leadoff hitter, Izayah Alvarez (Palm Desert H.S.) led off the bottom of the third with a double to left and an infield single by Rodriguez would set up sophomore third baseman Nathaniel Lopez (Palm Desert H.S.), who would drop a single to right, scoring Alvarez from second base.

Later in the inning, Rodriguez would come home on a double steal. On the attempted pick off at third, the San Bernardino Valley third baseman pushed the throw from the catcher into left field, allowing Rodriguez to score and tie the game at 2-2.

The Wolverines would add a run in the fourth, five runs in the fifth, seven runs in the seventh and another run in the ninth.
