COD Baseball puts two across early, falls late to Wolverines, 6-4

COD (3-31; 1-17) scored twice in the bottom of the first, then the visitors scored four in the third and a run in the fifth, before the Roadrunners scored twice more in the fifth, falling to the San Bernardino Valley Wolverines (15-18; 9-9), 6-4.

Desert would open up the scoring in the bottom of the first as sophomore second baseman Nathaniel Lopez (Palm Desert H.S.) clobbered a one out double to left field scoring freshman short stop Ryan Rodriguez (Rancho Mirage H.S.). Later in the inning, sophomore first baseman Matthew Fisher (Redlands H.S.) singled to right field, scoring Lopez and giving the Roadrunners a 2-0 lead.

San Bernardino Valley would score four runs in the top of the third and another run in the top of the fifth before Desert answered aback with a pair of runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth.

Freshman catcher Casey Allen (Twentynine Palms H.S.) led off the bottom of the fifth with his fifth hit of the season, a single to left and the next batter, freshman right fielder Brice Pokershing (Fontana Summit) reached on an error by the Wolverines first baseman on a fielder's choice.

Sophomore center fielder and leadoff hitter, Izayah Alvarez (Palm Desert H.S.) would reach on another error by the pitcher, scoring Allen. Later in the inning, freshman designated hitter Mario Ramirez (Rancho Mirage H.S.) would smack a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Alvarez and getting Desert back to within a run, 5-4.

San Bernardino Valley would score an insurance run in the top of the sixth and neither team could score after that inning.
