COD Baseball opens up 2020 with win over the Seahawks, 10-6

COD (1-0) began the season with a victory for the first time since 2012 as the Roadrunners came from behind, scoring six runs in the 7th and 8th innings to knock off the LA Harbor Seahawks of Wilmington (0-1), 10-6.

The Seahawks would get onto the board first in the top of the third, but a three run outburst by Desert in the bottom half of the inning would give the home side the lead, 3-1. Both sides would trade runs in the fourth and fifth innings, then Harbor added a four run inning in the sixth, to give the visitors a 6-4 advantage. The Roadrunners would tie the game at 6-6 in the seventh, then score four more runs in the eighth to take the game, 10-6.

Sophomore center fielder and leadoff hitter Joshua Hernandez (Palm Desert H.S.) went 2 for 3 with two runs scored and two runs batted in and sophomore third baseman Mario Ramirez (Rancho Mirage H.S) went 2 for 4 with a run scored and two RBI's.

Sophomore catcher Trey Ladner (La Quinta H.S.) went 2 for 3 with an RBI and freshman designated hitter Carlos Munoz (Rancho Mirage H.S.) went 2 for 3 with a run scored. Sophomore right fielder Christopher Burke (Temecula Valley) went 2 for 4 with two runs scored and freshman short stop Taishin Matsushita (Kofu, Japan) went 1 for 4 with a run scored and two RBI's in the win.

Sophomore right handed starting pitcher Brian Glenn (Palm Desert H.S.) tossed five and a third strong innings, allowing five runs, two earned on two hits, walking four and striking out six in a no decision. Sophomore right handed relief pitcher Max Weckel (Las Vegas (NV) Bishop Gorman) threw an inning and two thirds and freshman right handed relief pitcher Charles Graham (Palm Springs H.S.) grabbed his first win of the season with two innings of work.
