COD Baseball opens 2023 season with 4 hit shutout of Seahawks, 4-0

COD (1-0) welcomed in 2023 with a touching ceremonial first pitch and a dominating mound performance by Kenny Keller, as the Roadrunners pushed past the Los Angeles Harbor Seahawks of Wilmington (0-1), 4-0.

For the ceremonial first pitch, the Roadrunners welcomed longtime College of the Desert Athletics employee, Jill Buttles. Jill retired in June of 2021, after 29.5 years at COD. Her husband, David Buttles, was a former COD Baseball head coach for many years. Once the game started, sophomore left-handed starting pitcher Kenny Keller (Tampa (FL) Thomas R. Robinson) got to work, tossing six shutout innings, with a career high 12 strikeouts for his first win of the season. Sophomore center fielder William Owens (Crescent City, FL) had a 2 for 4 evening at the plate, scoring a run, knocking in a run batted in and tying a career high with three stolen bases in the win.

The next contest for Desert is on Saturday, January 28th at 1p hosting the LA Harbor Seahawks.
