COD Baseball dominates in windblown victory over Falcons, 17-3

COD (9-1) grabbed their sixth straight win, using a 9-run fifth to turn a lopsided contest into a football score as the Roadrunners knocked off the Cerritos Falcons (3-6), 17-3.

Desert has never played the Falcons in Baseball and it was truly a "Saint Valentine's Day Massacre" at Ted Hamilton Field. The wind was gusting and cold, making for a very uncomfortable afternoon for all in attendance. Sophomore right fielder Graham Gonzales (Valparaiso, IN) went 2 for 3 with 3 runs scored out of the leadoff spot and sophomore short stop Jason Leon (La Quinta H.S.) went 2 for 3 with a pair of runs scored out of the three-hole in the lineup. Sophomore left fielder Jacob Mejia (Palm Desert H.S.) went 2 for 3, including a double, out of the cleanup spot and sophomore designated hitter Spencer Dickinson (Rancho Mirage H.S.) went 2 for 3 with 3 runs batted in out of the five-hole. Sophomore catcher Tyler Swan (Gilroy Christopher) went 3 for 5 with 3 runs scored out of the eight-hole. Sophomore left handed starting pitcher Kenny Keller (Tampa (FL) Thomas R. Robinson) had another impressive game, tossing six complete, only giving up 3 hits and striking out 7 for his third win of the season. Sophomore right handed relief pitcher Marco Calderon-Lopez (Indio H.S.), sophomore right handed relief pitcher Dylan Kints (Exeter (ON) South Huron District) and sophomore right handed relief pitcher Kevin Sanchez (Indio Shadow Hills) wrapped up the game.

The next contest for Desert is on Thursday, February 16th at 1:30p at the Cerritos Falcons of Norwalk. The next home game for the Roadrunners is Tuesday, February 21st at 1p against the Los Angeles Mission Eagles of Sylmar.
