Week 3 Football Preview: COD at West LA

Week 3 Football Preview: COD at West LA

The Roadrunners are back on the road this week as they travel to Culver City to take on the West LA Wildcats. COD is looking to put one in the win column after two hard fought contests against two state ranked teams. The Wildcats are going to test a Roadrunner's Defense that is much improved from a year ago. The D held (#20) LA Valley to only 266 yards of offense for the entire game last week, but costly mistakes on special teams proved to be the difference. The Wildcats can light up the scoreboard though. They are averaging 37.5 points per game and have put up an average of almost 600 yards per game. WLAC quarterback Jorge Reyna has provided much of the offense for West LA. Last week against Santa Barbara Reyna threw for 419 yards and 4 touchdowns while picking up 85 yards on the ground. Containing him will be a key for the Roadrunner's Defense.

Desert's offense has been moving the ball as well, but is doing so with a more balanced attacked. They are averaging about 300 yards a game of offense with 190 yards of the coming through the air. Freshman De'Abrie Smith has done a nice job managing the offense and he is completing 52.8% of his pass attempts this year. That is coming against two stingy defenses. This week the field may open up a bit for him. While West LA can put points on the scoreboard, they also have given up several points this year. They have allowed 39.5 points per game this year and opposing quarterbacks have been able to sling it all over the field against their secondary. Look for Smith and wide Receivers Reginald Macon and Myles Goulbourne to put up monster numbers this week. The offensive line should also be able to open some big holes for Anthony Ellison to work some magic in the backfield. West LA has been allowing 190 yards per game on the ground this year.
