COD (0-1) had an opportunity to do something the Roadrunners had never done before, win at the Pasadena City Lancers (1-0), and with a high flying passing attack it almost happened, but late 4th quarter 4th down conversion would prove to be the difference as Desert fell, 42-38.

Your Roadrunners opened up 2018 on the road, as they travelled to Pasadena City for the first time since 2010. Desert blew up with the new high powered offensive passing attack, picking on the Lancers defensive backs with ease.

Desert rolled in their opening drive, going 75 yards in 10 plays when sophomore quarterback Noah Shoeman (Murray, UT) connected with sophomore running back Levi Holden (Roseburg, OR) for a five yard grab-and-score for the first of five passing touchdowns by Shoeman on the evening. After a missed point-after attempt, the Roadrunners led, 6-0.

When the Lancers, went down the field and scored on their first possession of the game, you knew it was going to be a shootout between two explosive offenses, with huge receivers and quarterbacks that can get them the ball.

Shoeman exploded out of the gate, opening 2018 throwing for 537 yards, going 29 of 55 and finding the end zone five times, with a long of 73 yards. Shoeman was all over the field as he connected with six different receivers, including his top target, sophomore wide receiver Jaurice Thomas (South Elgin, IL), who caught 10 passes for 272 yards and two scores.

Freshman linebacker Ryan Rover (Palm Desert Xavier College Prep) had a huge impact on Saturday's game, grabbing ten total tackles, two sacks for nine yards, along with two and a half tackles for loss, totaling a loss of 10 yards. Rover also forced one fumble and a quarterback hurry.

Freshman kicker/punter Leonel Munguia (Palm Springs H.S.) connected on both field goal attempts, going 2 for 2 and nailing a 32 yarder in the 3rd quarter and a 22 yarder in the 4th quarter. Munguia also had five punts totaling 186 yards, with a long of 44 yards, and four of his five attempts ended up inside the 20 yard line and two were for touchbacks.
