COD Football: Penalties harm chances in close loss to the Brahmas, 44-43

COD (1-3) had to come from behind early, eventually taking a lead early in the second half, but over 200 yards in penalties hurt the Roadrunners chances in a close contest, as the LA Pierce Brahmas (2-3) snuck out of the Desert with a one point win, 44-43.

Sophomore running back Tony Williams, Jr. (Indio Shadow Hills) had 211 rushing yards on 21 carries and three touchdowns, including a passing touchdown of 78 yards in a huge offensive night for the Roadrunners.

Sophomore defensive lineman Scott Arnold (Lancaster Eastside) had a huge night terrorizing the LA Pierce backfield grabbing eight tackles, including 1.5 tackles for loss totaling three yards, half of a sack, a broken up pass at the line of scrimmage and a quarterback hurry for the Roadrunners.

Sophomore kick returner Levi Holden (Roseburg, OR) had four kickoff returns for a total of 97 yards, including a long of 35 yards, along with 3 catches for 33 yards and a carry for 11 yards, giving Holden a total of 141 all-purpose yards on the night for the Roadrunners.

The next game for Desert is at home, when they wrap-up non-Conference play by hosting the LA Harbor Seahawks of Wilmington, game starts at 6 p.m. The last time Desert and the Seahawks faced-off against one another was in 2013 and the game was in Palm Desert, where the Roadrunners walked away with a 29-17 victory. The Roadrunners have a 3-3 record overall against Harbor, and a 2-1 record at home.
