COD Football: Patrick & Avila-Burgueno sign letters

COD Football sophomores, wide receiver Jaye Patrick and defensive line Jonnathan Avila-Burgueno have signed letters of intent. Patrick with Grambling and Avila-Burgueno with Azusa Pacific.

Avila-Burgueno, the 6-3, 270 pound defensive lineman from Rancho Mirage High School wore #94 and played in six games, grabbing 13 total tackles and two sacks, along with forcing a fumble against Pasadena City.

Patrick, the 6-6, 232 pound receiver from Western International High School in Detroit, Michigan wore #11 and snagged three catches for 45 yards in 2018.

Under fifth-year head coach Jack Steptoe, Desert finished the regular season with a record 4-6 overall and 2-3 in conference. The team was bestowed with four first team All-Mountain Conference honors and four second team All-Mountain Conference honors.

Azusa Pacific University is located in the San Gabriel Valley community of Azusa. The APU Cougars play their home games at Citrus Stadium on the campus of Citrus Community College and the team is coached by 13-year veteran head coach, Victor Santa Cruz. In the 2018 season, the Cougars concluded the year with an 8-4 overall record and a 7-1 record in Conference play, finishing tied for first in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) of NCAA Division II.

Grambling State University is located in Grambling, Louisiana, which is about 65 miles east of Shreveport and 45 miles south of the Arkansas-Louisiana state line. The GSU Tigers play their home games at Eddie Robinson Stadium and the team is coached by 5th year veteran head coach, Broderick Fobbs. In the 2018 season, the Tigers concluded the year with a 6-5 overall record and a 4-3 record in Conference play, finishing tied for second in the West Division. The Tigers are in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) of the NCAA Division I - Football Championship Subdivision (FCS).
