Doug Smith
Defensive Line Coach

“Smitty” comes to the Desert as a well-travelled Coach, having spent the last 22 years in the Santa Rosa District coaching mainly at Santa Rosa Junior College, where over time he was the Director of Football Operations, the Defensive Line Coach, the Tight Ends Coach, and the Special Teams coordinator. Smitty also coached at various other JCs, including Mendocino JC where he was Offensive Coordinator and Assistant Head Coach, and helped guide that team to a still-standing 9-1 record season. Prior to Santa Rosa JC, Smitty was the Defensive Line Coach at NCAA Div. II Sonoma State University for two seasons prior to that program’s folding.

Born in Worcester Mass., Smitty coached at Major Universities in Canada for about 20 years (University of Toronto, Queen’s University), largely being Defensive Coordinator and Defensive Line Coach, all the while maintaining his civilian career as an Engineer. During his playing days he was awarded OQIFC Conference All-star status as a two-way Halfback.

Smitty has a B.SC. in Electrical Engineering and an M.B.A., and has recently retired to the Palm Desert area and looks forward to helping the Roadrunners in any way possible.
