EL CAJON, Calif. -- College of the Desert (3-7) men's basketball picked up a 75-69 win over LA Southwest, before dropping two games this past weekend in the Grossmont Invitational in El Cajon.

Freshman guard Gabe Solache (Morningside HS) led the Roadrunner offense against LA Southwest, scoring 18 points in 23 minutes off the bench.  Freshmen guards William Brown (Animo Los Angeles HS) and Marquete Eddie (Friendship Collegiate D.C. HS) also scored in the double-figures for COD, netting 13 and 10 points, respectively.  

Sophomore forward Zach Waites (Palm Springs HS) scored 23 points in the Roadrunners' loss 72-53 loss to tournament host, Grossmont, and then added 20 more points in their consolation loss to Cypress, 68-58.  

For his efforts, Waites was named to the All-Tournament team.

College of the Desert takes on LA Valley this Thursday afternoon in the Santa Barbara Classic.  Game time is set for 3 p.m.
