COD Men’s Basketball falls short in loss to the Jets, 103-64

COD (3-15; 0-2) had a hard time keeping up with their Pacific Coast Athletic Conference opponents and the #12 team in the state, as the visiting San Diego Miramar Jets (16-5; 2-0) took the game, 103-64.

The Jets opened the contest on a 14-4 run and didn't look back, putting the home Roadrunners in a bind early and often. The pesky Miramar defense forced Desert to surrender 25 turn overs, all while the Jets collected 23 steals. Desert did win the battle of the boards, snagging 44 total boards, compared to 43 of the Jets. The Roadrunners also made their free throws, shooting over 75% from the line for the sixth time this season, hitting 11 of 14 for 78.6%.

Freshman starting guard Philippe Salawa (Fontana Azariel Blanchard Miller) led all scorers with 19 points on 6 of 14 shooting and was a perfect, 7 for 7 from the free throw line, also leading the team in steals with three.

Sophomore starting forward Dajuan Fulgham (Montevallo, AL) collected his third double-double of the season, scoring 13 points on 5 of 14 shooting and grabbing 12 boards, 10 defensively, along with slapping away two more blocks to give him 30 on the year, tying him for 7th in the state in total blocks.

Freshman forward Alex McGrath (Palm Desert H.S.) came off of the bench to lead the team in blocks with three and assists with five on the night.
