COD Men’s Basketball gives #14 Eagles a hot contest, 95-79

COD (3-17; 0-4) had a difficult first half, but turned their fortunes around in the second half, almost stunning the #14 team in the state, the Mt. San Jacinto Eagles (17-9; 3-1), 95-79.

The Roadrunners would score 51 points in the second half, but a slow first half put the home side in a difficult spot early. Both teams would go into the half with the Eagles leading, 52-28, but the Desert offense would explode in the second half, collapsing the Mt. San Jacinto defense.

Freshman guard Philippe Salawa (Fontana Azariel Blanchard Miller) would come off of the bench to lead all scorers with 21 points on 10 of 15 shooting, in his largest point total of the season.

Sophomore forward Dajuan Fulgham (Montevallo, AL) also leapt off of the bench to contribute a near double-double, 11 points, shooting 4 of 9 from the field, going 2 of 6 from three-point range and grabbing nine boards. He also led the team in blocks with four, giving him 38 on the season, placing Fulgham 6th in the state in blocks.

Freshman starting forward Alex McGrath (Palm Desert H.S.) also added 11 points on 4 of 9 shooting and freshman starting guard Shaquille Russell (Reseda Cleveland) also contributed 11 points on 5 of 14 shooting.

Sophomore starting guard Kenny Lewis (Riverside Ramona) led the team in rebounds with ten and freshman starting forward Gunnar Mogolis (Palm Desert H.S.) led the team with two steals. Sophomore guard Etienne Ettlinger (St. John Brebeuf, BC) led the team in assists with seven.
