COD Men’s Basketball: Russell signs with Dakota State

Video: Russell comments on why he chose Dakota State and his time as a Roadrunner.

Sophomore guard Shaquille Russell (Reseda Cleveland) signs with the Dakota State Trojans, becomes second Roadrunner headed to South Dakota.

Shaquille Russell was a key component in Desert's success as the men's basketball team finished the 2018-2019 season with an overall record of 14-14 and a conference record of 5-5, the best finish since the 2007-2008 season. Russell's best game was on Dec. 6th at home against LA Trade Tech, where he collected 16 points, finished 50 percent beyond the arch and hit seven of eight free-throws. The Roadrunners ended the regular season in fourth place in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference, barely missing a bid for post season play.

Dakota State University is located in Madison, South Dakota and specializes in computer sciences. The Trojans compete in the North Star Athletic Association, a conference within the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). Under tenth-year head coach Gary Gardner, the Trojans finished the 2018-2019 season with an overall record of 9-22 and a conference record of 4-10.
