COD Men’s Golf finishes 6th at Bakersfield

COD Men's Golf participated in their fifth event of the 2018 season at the annual SoCal Regional Preview, as the team finished 6th out of 16 teams.

The Roadrunners sent six participants to its third event, which was hosted at the Bakersfield Country Club in Bakersfield.

This tournament really brought out the heavy hitters, as the 2017 CCCAA State Champion College of the Canyons Cougars, along with 2017 Finals runner-up Cypress Chargers, the entire Western State Conference, three members of the Orange Empire Conference and four members of the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference. Desert would finish with 383 points, and just 18 strokes back of winner, Orange Coast.

Freshman Joseph Bogaert (Ghent (BE) Sint-Barbara College) led the way for the Roadrunners, tying his best outing of the season, shooting a two-over 74. Sophomore Bobby Kim (South Korea) shot a strong, four-over, 76 on the day.

Freshman Mitchel McComber (Redlands Citrus Valley) and freshman Eric Pizzulli (Old Bridge, NJ) tied at 77. This was Pizzulli's first event of 2018 as both players shot a five-over.

Sophomore Samuel Berglund (Victoria (AUS) Rowville Secondary College) shot a strong seven-over, 79 and sophomore Tyler Smith (Palm Desert H.S.), shot a nine-over, 81, to wrap up the top six for the Roadrunners.

COD will make their next appearance at Torrey Pines Golf Course - North Course in La Jolla on Monday, March 12 as they open up Pacific Coast Athletic Conference play.
