COD Men’s Golf opens up 2019 in Lompoc

COD Men's Golf opened up the 2019 season with a tough tournament, as the team finished 8th on day one and did not have enough participants to qualify for a team score on day two sophomore Maxime Faure (Deauville (FR) Lycee Andre Malraux) collected a tie for 13th place individual finish for the tournament.

The Roadrunners sent five participants to its first event, which was hosted at La Purisima Golf Club in Lompoc over a two-day period.

This opening tournament really brought out the heavy hitters, as the 2018 CCCAA State Champions were represented, the Cypress Chargers, along with six Western State Conference teams. The Roadrunners were one of three representatives from the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference at this event.

Desert would finish with 404 points after day one, putting them in 8th place only two-strokes back of Mt. San Antonio and 23 strokes back of the leaders, the Santa Barbara City Vaqueros number two team. Unfortunately, the Roadrunners would have one of their players disqualified during the second round and were unable to complete the match with a team score. The Santa Barbara City number one team would win the event with 762 strokes.

Faure led the way for the Roadrunners in total score, shooting a 154. He shot a four-over 76 on day one and a six-over 78 on day two.

Sophomore Michael Choma (La Quinta H.S.) shot a six-over 78 on day one and a 15-over 87 on day two, giving him a total of 165 and freshman Landon Stellingwerff (Calgary, AB Central Memorial) shot a strong six-over 78 on day one.

Sophomore Jordan Clark (Poway H.S.) shot an 86 on day one and an 83 on day two and freshman Bailey Spivak (Palm Desert H.S.) shot a 176 to wrap up the two day event for the Roadrunners.

COD will make their next appearance at Los Serranos Country Club in Chino Hills on Wednesday, February 6 as they begin the Orange Empire Classic.
