COD Men’s Golf closes 2019 at SoCal Regionals, Choma tops season best

COD Men's Golf sent six Roadrunners to participate in the 2019 CCCAA Southern California Regionals at the Los Seranos Golf Course, in Chino Hills.

Desert finished the 74-par event in eighth place, with a team score of 781 points. In the first round the Roadrunners collected a score of 391 and went on to grab an improved score of 390 in the second and final round. The College of the Canyons Cougars would take the 2019 CCCAA Southern California Regional Championship for the second year in a row.   

Capturing the most impressive score for the Roadrunners, sophomore Michael Choma (La Quinta H.S.) nailed a four-over 78 in the first round, then grabbed his season best two-under 72.

Finishing close behind, sophomore Clement Heurtin (Nantes (FR) NDTA) shot a six-over 80 in the first round before sealing a 74 par, adding a total of 154 points to the team score.

In the first round of Regionals, sophomore Maxime Faure (Deauville (FR) Lycee Andre Malraux) shot a two-over 76 and then shot a 10-over 84, collecting 160 event points.

Both freshman Josh Lumgair (Calgary (AB) Academy) and sophomore Jordan Clark (Poway H.S.) also collected 160 total event points. In the first round, Clark collected an eight-over 82 as Lumgair shot a four-over 78. The second round would see a reverse in scores for the Roadrunners, as Clark shot a four-over 78 and Lumgair collected an eight-over 82.

Wrapping up the event for Desert, freshman Bailey Spivak (Palm Desert H.S.) collected a 5-over 79 in the first round and a 14-over 88 in the second round. The Roadrunners did not qualify for the CCCAA State Championships, as the top six teams move on.
