COD Men’s Golf opens up 2023 at Lompoc

COD Men's Golf opened up the 2023 season with a tough tournament, as the team had four golfers participate in the 14-team tournament.

The Roadrunners sent four participants to its first event, which was hosted at La Purisima Golf Club in Lompoc. The tournament is scheduled as a multi-day event. This opening tournament really brought out the heavy hitters, as three of the eight 2023 CCCAA State finalists were represented, along with seven Western State Conference teams and three NorCal teams. The Roadrunners were one of four representatives from the Orange Empire Conference at this event. Desert would finish with only four players, but you need 5 to score as a team. The tournament champion was College of the Canyons.

Sophomore Se Min Song (Haeundae-gu (KOR) Changwon Nam) would lead the way for the Roadrunners, shooting a 6-over 78 on day one, then an 81 on day two for a total of 159 for an individual finish of 11th overall. Sophomore Yuo Torii (Montverde (FL) Montverde Academy) shot an 86 on day one, then dropped 10 strokes on day two, shooting a 4-over 76 for a total of 162. Freshman Jacob Stacey (Twentynine Palms H.S.) shot an 83 on day one and an 88 on day two for a total of 171 and freshman Jayson Bittner (Rancho Mirage H.S.) shot a 92 on day one and dropped 3 strokes on day two for a score of 89 and a total of 181 to wrap up the event for the Roadrunners.

COD will make their next appearance at Steele Canyon Golf Club in Jamul on Wednesday, February 14 at 10:30a as they participate in the Cuyamaca Classic.
