VICTORVILLE, Calif. - College of the Desert men's soccer picked up its first Foothill Conference win, as they defeated Victor Valley by a score of 2-1 yesterday afternoon in Victorville.
In the game's 12th minute, freshman Brandon Montano (Palm Springs, CA/Palm Springs HS) was hauled down in the box, earning in a Roadrunner penalty kick. Sophomore Brandon Teran (La Quinta, CA/La Quinta HS) converted, giving COD a 1-0 lead that would hold up through halftime.
Victor Valley tied it in the 60th minute, but a response from Montano just 15 minutes later served as the game-winning goal. Freshman Jose Silva picked up the assist on Montano's goal, while freshman Jorge Sepulveda (Cathedral City, CA/Cathedral City HS) was strong in net, making five saves-- including two key second-half stops to preserve the win.
College of the Desert (3-10, 1-2) returns home this Friday, October 23 for a 4 p.m. Foothill Conference match against Rio Hondo.
