COD Men's Soccer fights hard in the heat, falls to Marauders, 3-1

COD (0-1-1) hosted their second game of the young season against the Lancaster Antelope Valley Marauders (2-0) on one of the hottest days of the year as all four goals were scored in the first half, with Desert falling, 3-1.

The visiting Marauders were awarded a penalty kick in the 2nd minute and converted that chance into the lower left corner of the net, past the dive of Desert starting keeper freshman Michael Cruz (Thermal Desert Mirage), giving Antelope Valley the early 1-0 lead.

Antelope Valley would add two more goals in the 9th and 38th minutes to go up 3-0, before the Roadrunners would find the back of the net.

In the 43rd minute, Desert hit pay dirt as freshman defender Omar Felix (Thermal Coachella Valley) found freshman midfielder Ezekiel Barragan (Thermal Coachella Valley) in front of the net and pounded the shot past the Marauders keeper, to get the Roadrunners on the board, 3-1.

Both teams were provided a water break every 15 minutes as the Desert Training Staff worked diligently to keep track of the heat and humidity.

The second half was a better half for Desert as they maintained tempo throughout and limited the marauders chances. Unfortunately, the Roadrunners ended up short handed as a player was given two yellow cards within two minutes, leaving Desert to play the remaining eight minutes a man down.
