COD Men’s Soccer rolls to first Conference title since 1999, beats Comets, 2-0

COD (12-3-5; 10-1-5) is back in the playoffs for the first time since 1999, as they were awarded the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference title after defeating the Palomar Comets of San Marcos (5-12-3; 4-10-2), 2-0.

Freshman starting goalkeeper Uriel Lopez (Palm Desert H.S.) collected his seventh clean sheet of the season, wrapping up the 2018 regular season with a 1.07 goals against average.

The Roadrunners celebrated the conclusion of the regular season under the lights of Robert F. Boone Field with Sophomore Night. Due to the soccer double header, they chose to honor their sophomore players at halftime, business before awards.

Desert would find the back of the net in the 39th minute, when freshman midfielder Cesar Garcia (Thermal Coachella Valley) lobbed a pass into freshman forward Alejandro Pimentel (Thermal Desert Mirage) and after a quick dart to the right, he pounded the shot up over the keeper to give the Roadrunners a 1-0.

Pimentel would score again twenty minutes later, in the 59th minute when, after a barrage of shots from all angles, the Comets keeper could not keep up with the third and final shot of the assault, giving Desert a 2-0 lead.
