COD Men’s Tennis falls in SoCal Semis at Cerritos, 5-0

COD (15-3) took their #4 seed on the road for the CCCAA SoCal Semifinals traveling to the top seed in Southern California, the #1 seeded Cerritos Falcons (26-2), falling, 5-0.

The Roadrunners had all three doubles teams fall in each of their rounds. The team of freshman Kyryll Kryvchun (Vancouver (BC) Learning Network) and freshman Brian Johnson (Palm Springs H.S.) fell 8-5, the team of sophomore Dimitrije Vukovic (Burnaby (BC) Moscrop Secondary) and sophomore Joau Luiz Zillo Prado (São Paulo (Brazil) Ateneu) fell 8-1 and the team sophomore Jakob Dvorken (Ridgewood, NJ) and freshman Joshua Bailin (La Quinta H.S.) fell 8-0.

In singles play, Kryvchun fell in straight sets 6-0 and 6-0, Vukovic fell in straight sets 6-0 and 6-2 and Bailin fell in straight sets 6-1 and 6-0 to wrap things up for the Falcons. The matches of Johnson, Prado and Dvorken were stopped before their conclusion due to the point total being reached for Cerritos.

Head coach Ken Thomas stated, "A sincere 'thank you' to everyone behind the scenes that have helped and supported us this season. The boys on the team know that we are successful because we have professional and dedicated people behind us that has helped us every step of the way. A very special thank you to Jill, Judy, Angel, Todd, Val and Hutzi for everything they have done for us. They kept us healthy, focused, eligible, clothed and legal. Thanks to Brian, for everything this season...Always appreciate the ink. He is the best."

Head coach Ken Thomas concluded his thoughts by commenting, "Thank you to Gary for always supporting us. We did our best. Last but not least, I would like to thank my Assistant Coach Ted Bauer. He was always there for the boys and he knows so much about this game. I was lucky to have him in the trenches with me. There is no better assistant coach in the CCCAA than Ted Bauer. Thank you Ted!"

The next match for College of the Desert Men's Tennis will be on the road on April 27th to 29th at Ojai, where they will participate in the CCCAA Singles and Doubles State Championships. The Roadrunners qualified three doubles teams for the State Tournament: Kryuchun / Johnson, Vukovic / Prado and Dvorken / Bailin. Desert also qualified four individual players for the State Tournament: Kryuchun, Johnson, Vukovic, Prado and Dvorken. 

#1 Cerritos defeated #4 College of the Desert, 5-0 in CCCAA SoCal Regional Team Semifinals play at Cerritos College in Norwalk.
