VIDEO: COD Men's Tennis player Marcus Simon talks about signing his NLI with Ottawa University in Kansas

COD Men's Tennis sophomore Marcus Simon (Twentynine Palms H.S.) has signed a letter of intent with Ottawa University in Kansas.

The 6-4 player from Twentynine Palms High School competed against 11 of the 18 opponents the Roadrunners played in the 2018 season, seven of which were conference matchups. In singles competition, Simon finished the season with five victories in a win or walkover, all of which were conference opponents. In doubles play, he also finished with five victories in either a win or walkover, three being won in conference and two in non-conference. Simon had his most dominant match against Mt. San Jacinto on April 4th where he came out victorious in both singles (6-2, 6-2) and doubles (8-5).

COD wrapped up the 2018 season at the CCCAA Individual State Finals, winning the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference (PCAC) title, the individual Conference title and the doubles Conference title. Under third-year head coach Ken Thomas, Desert finished the regular season 15-3 overall and undefeated in PCAC play with a record of 12-0. The Roadrunners placed two individual players in the "Round of 32" at the CCCAA Individual State Finals which took place at the Ojai 118th Annual Tennis Tournament.

Ottawa University is located in Ottawa, Kansas which is about 55 miles southwest of Kansas City, Missouri. The OU Braves play their home games on the Forest Park Tennis Courts and the team is coached by Scott Enge in his second season with the program. In 2018, the Braves concluded the year with a 14-9 record overall and a 7-2 in conference play, finishing third. The Braves are in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) of the NAIA.
