COD Men's Tennis opens playoffs by knocking off Tigers, 5-1
COD (16-1) claimed a first round playoff win by downing the Riverside City Tigers (11-9), 5-1.
With their undefeated conference season behind them, Desert began the event in doubles play as the undefeated team of sophomore Kalman Boyd (Solana Beach Fusian Academy) and freshman Alex Kuperstein (Palm Desert H.S.) took an easy win from the Tigers, 8-1. In an effort to extend their playoff run, the team of freshman Manfred Vogt (Mexico City (MX) and freshman Sebastian Gomez Romero (Palm Desert H.S.) toppled Riverside City with a final score of 8-4. The Tigers would then suffer an injury, giving the team of freshman Saar Rogovski (Rosh HaAyin (ISR) Menachem Begin) and freshman Andrew Limon (Indio Shadow Hills) the victory in the last match up, sealing a doubles play sweep for the Roadrunners.
In singles play, Boyd continued the streak for Desert and maintained his undefeated record, taking the win in two sets, 6-1 and 6-1. Vogt would claim a singles victory just as easily, also winning in two sets, 6-1 and 6-1. With the most impressive performance of the event, Rogovski blanked his opponent, 6-0 and 6-0, continuing the Roadrunner's playoff run. The remaining matches were decided prior to finish.
The next playoff match for College of the Desert's Men's Tennis will be Tuesday, April 16th, where the will face the Irvine Valley Lasers. This Thursday, April 12th, Desert will compete in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference championships at Grossmont College.
College of the Desert defeated Riverside City College, 5-1 in the first round of the CCCAA Southern California Regionals at College of the Desert in Palm Desert.
