COD Men's Tennis fall in close match to Mesa Arizona, 5-4

COD (6-1; 6-0) faced their toughest opponent of the 2019 season, the Mesa College of Arizona Thunderbirds (4-2).

In singles play for Desert, sophomore Kalman Boyd (Solana Beach Fusian Academy) knocked off the Thunderbird in two sets, 6-3 and 6-1. Freshman Alex Kuperstein (Palm Desert H.S.) also took his opponent in two, 6-2 and 6-3. Grabbing the last win in singles play for the Roadrunners, freshman Manfred Vogt (Mexico City (MX) Universidad Panamerican Preparatoria) battled throughout an extended match, winning in an extra set. The team score was tied, 3-3, going into doubles.

In doubles play, the team of Boyd and Kuperstein elevated Desert into the lead by grabbing the first win, 8-4. In the next set of doubles, the Thunderbirds took the win, 8-4. The last doubles match was to claim the team win and the Roadrunners fell just short, losing 8-4. Mesa dealt Desert their first loss of the 2019 season. 

The next match for College of the Desert Men's Tennis will be at home on March 10th at 2p, where they will face California Lutheran University in non-conference play.
