COD Men's Tennis shuts down Lasers, 5-2, punching ticket to SoCal Regional Finals
COD (17-1; 12-0) made their way into the third round of CCCAA Southern California Regional Playoffs by knocking off #2 seed, the Irvine Valley Lasers (12-2; 8-0), 5-2.
Starting the event in doubles play, the team of sophomore Kalman Boyd (Solana Beach Fusian Academy) and freshman Alex Kuperstein (Palm Desert H.S.) overwhelmed Irvine, taking the win, 8-1. The team of freshman Manfred Vogt (Mexico City (MX) Universidad Panamerican Preparatoria) and freshman Sebastian Gomez Romero (Palm Desert H.S.) put another team point on the board for the Roadrunners, winning 8-4. The next doubles match would go to the Lasers as the team of freshman Saar Rogovski (Rosh HaAyin (ISR) Menachem Begin) and freshman Syed Hosain (Abu Dhabi (UAE) GEMS American Academy) fell, 8-1.
Desert had the lead, 2-1, going into doubles play as Boyd added another singles victory, 6-0 and 6-1. Kuperstein also claimed an impressive win in straight sets, 6-0 and 6-2. Rogovski would seal the team win for the Roadrunners and punch their ticket to the CCCAA Southern California Regional Finals, by knocking off the Lasers, 7-6 and 6-1. Since Desert took the team win, 5-2, the next two matches were abandoned.
The next match of 2019 for College of the Desert Men's Tennis will be at Cerritos on April 20th at 2p, where face the #1-seed and defending state champions, the Cerritos College Falcons in the 3rd round of the CCCAA Southern California Regional Playoffs.
