COD Men's Tennis moves onto SoCal Finals after defeat of #3 Lasers, 5-2
COD (16-0) had their hands full from the beginning, but the Roadrunners held strong throughout as Desert defeated the #3 seeded Irvine Valley Lasers (11-4), 5-2.
In doubles play, the team of freshman Elijah Strode (San Diego Heritage Christian) and freshman Raymundo Chavez (Ensenada (BCN, MX) Centro de Bachillerato Tecnologico Inds. Servicos (CBT is 41 won in a hard-fought match, 8-4. The team of freshman Marco Alvarez (Chula Vista Eastlake) and freshman Matthew Shaw (Baton Rouge (LA) GED Testing Online) took down the #3 seeded Lasers in a hotly contested match, 8-6. The team of freshman Jiaxi Ma (Irvine Woodbridge) and freshman Eita Ishikawa (Yokkaichi (JPN) Yokkaichi Technical) would be the Roadrunners only loss in doubles play, falling, 8-4.
In singles play, Strode took a stunning quick loss 6-4 and 6-2, while Ishikawa won his match easily, 6-0 and 6-1. Ma and Chavez won their respective matches and Alvarez and Shaw had their matches suspended prematurely because Desert had reached the five-set limit securing the win for the Roadrunners.
The next match for College of the Desert Men's Tennis will be at home where they will host the CCCAA Southern California Finals, welcoming in the #2 seeded Ventura Pirates on Saturday, April 16th at 2p. Admission is free.
College of the Desert defeated Irvine Valley College, 5-2 in the 2nd round of the CCCAA Southern California Regional Playoffs at College of the Desert in Palm Desert.
