Softball: Bree Luna Named Interim Head Coach

PALM DESERT, Calif. -- Assistant coach Bree Luna has been named the interim head coach of College of the Desert softball following the resignation of Jen Banford.  Ken Mason and Ric Fochtman will be joining Luna on the Lady Roadrunners' staff.

"I am sorry to say that effective immediately I will have to resign from my position at the College of the Desert due to personal and business commitments," said Banford.  "I would like to thank Gary Plunkett, the support staff, coaches and players for welcoming me to COD.  I would like to personally thank my assistant coach, Bree Luna, for her commitments and assistance all year; I wish the team the best of luck in the future."

Banford guided her squad to a 6-14-1 record overall, while opening conference play with a 2-2 mark.  "We greatly appreciate all of her time and commitment to our softball program," said director of athletics, Gary Plunkett.  "Jen has consistently been a true professional throughout her time here at COD, and we are thankful for everything she's done."

After being off this week, the Lady Roadrunners return to action next Friday, March 25 for a pair of Foothill Conference games against Rio Hondo.  Bree Luna's first game at the helm begins at 12 p.m.
