2018 Season In Review - COD Softball

COD Softball players, Jada Toland, Tatiana Martinez, Rebecca Alford and Vanessa Madera were named All-Pacific Coast Athletic Conference Honorable Mention.

Under the tutelage of Coach Garrett Estrin, in his 2nd full season at the helm, Desert Softball ended the 2018 season with a record of 9-24 overall and 2-14 in Conference, finishing ninth.

On the field, sophomore short stop Jada Toland (Indio Shadow Hills) was named honorable mention all-Pacific Coast Athletic Conference. She led the team with 12 stolen bases, finished with 16 runs batted in and 25 hits grabbing 2 doubles and 2 triples, Toland finished with .338 batting average. She participated in 25 of the 33 games on the season. Toland had her best all-around offensive game against Golden West on April 21st, when she went 3 for 4 with a double, three runs scored and two runs batted in.

Freshman right handed pitcher Tatiana Martinez (Thermal Coachella Valley) was named honorable mention all-Pacific Coast Athletic Conference. She finished tops on the team with 110.2 innings pitched, tossing ten complete games and striking out 27 on the season. At the plate, Martinez had eleven multi-hit games, her best all-around offensive game was at home against Mt. San Jacinto on March 9th, when she went 3 for 5 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI.

Also named honorable mention was sophomore third-baseman Rebecca Alford (Thermal Coachella Valley). She finished with 17 runs, 16 RBI's and 28 hits collecting 5 doubles and 2 triples. Alford finished with a .304 batting average, playing in all 33 games of the season. She had seven multi-hit games with several being 3-hit days, her best game a 3 for 4 at the plate, a double, three RBI's and two runs scored at home against Compton on April 7th.

Freshman right Center Fielder Vanessa Madera (Thermal Coachella Valley) was also named honorable mention all-Pacific Coast Athletic Conference. She followed Toland in stolen bases with eight and was second on the team with 3 doubles. Madera played in 30 of the 33 games on the season connecting on 32 hits and collecting 17 runs with 11 RBI's, with a batting average of .386. Her strongest all-around performance was a game at home against Mt. San Jacinto on March 9th, when she went 4 for 4 with a double, a run scored, and four RBI's.
