COD Softball sweeps games over Vaqueros and Rustlers, 7-5 & 12-4

COD (6-2) matched their best start since the 2014 season with a sweep at the "COD Tri" where the Roadrunners defeated the Glendale Vaqueros (1-6-1) and the Golden West Rustlers of Huntington Beach (2-7), 7-5 and 12-4. 

The Roadrunners had to come from behind in game one of the doubleheader after Glendale score a run in the top of the second and three more runs in the top of the fifth. Then the Desert bats started connecting and the Roadrunners would score four runs, all with two outs, in the bottom half of the fifth.

The Vaqueros would add a run in the top half of the sixth, but Desert would flip the script on Glendale and score three more runs, to make the score 7-5.

Sophomore right handed starting pitcher baseman Areli Moreno (Indio H.S.) would grab her third win of 2019 in the circle and go 2 for 4 with a run scored and a run batted in, while hitting out of the two hole in the lineup.

Freshman catcher Natalie Avila (Rancho Mirage H.S.) would go 2 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI out of the three hole in the lineup and freshman third baseman Lauren Robinson (La Quinta H.S.) went 2 for 3 with three RBI's. Freshman right fielder Giselle Maldonado (Rancho Mirage H.S.) went 2 for 3 with a run scored in the win. Robinson would step into the circle to wrap up the game, grabbing her second save of the season.

In game two, Golden West would jump out the early lead by plating a run in the top of the first, but then Desert continued where they left off in the previous game, scoring three runs in the first and three more runs in the second, to give the Roadrunners a 6-1 lead.

The Rustlers would get one run back in the top of the third and two more runs back in the top of the fourth, closing in on the Desert lead, 6-4. But the Roadrunners would close the door on Golden West with three runs in the fourth and three more runs in the fifth to mercy the Rustlers, 12-4.

Sophomore short stop and leadoff hitter, Briana Alcorn (Indio H.S.) was impressive, going 3 for 4 with two runs scored and an RBI and Moreno would go 3 for 3 with a three runs scored and two RBI's.

Avila would go 2 for 3 with a run scored and an RBI and Robinson was a perfect 3 for 3 with two runs scored and four RBI's. Freshman second baseman Jacqueline Bolha (Yucca Valley H.S.) went 2 for 3 with two RBI's and freshman center fielder Carmina Camarena (Rancho Mirage H.S.) 2 for 3 with a run scored on the afternoon.
