2019 Season in Review – COD Softball
Freshman right-handed pitcher Lauren Robinson named to 3FCA All-California Team, first Roadrunner since 2015 to receive state honors.
Under third-year head coach Garret Estrin, Desert Softball finished their regular season with a record of 19-16 overall and 9-7 in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference, the best season finish for COD Women's Softball since 2015. The team was bestowed with one first team All-Pacific Coast Athletic Conference honor, one second team All-Pacific Coast Athletic Conference and five Honorable Mentions.
Receiving the most honors for COD Women's Softball was freshman right-handed pitcher Lauren Robinson (La Quinta H.S.) who was named to the Community College Fastpitch Coaches Association All-California team, a Roadrunner has not received the honor since 2015. She also received Pacific Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Year (MVP), and was named First team All-Pacific Coast Athletic Conference. Robinson placed 19th in State and 3rd in PCAC in strikeouts, as she struck out a season total of 101 batters. She placed 5th in State and 1st in PCAC in batting average, finishing the 2019 season with a batting percentage of .536. She also placed 5th in PCAC in RBIs, bringing a total of 42 teammates across the plate and placed 2nd in PCAC in doubles with a season total of 21. She also led her team in both hits, collecting 52 and home runs, knocking 3 out of the park.
The sole Roadrunner to be named Second team All-Pacific Coast Athletic Conference was sophomore third-baseman and right-handed pitcher, Areli Moreno (Indio H.S.). Moreno holds 16th place in PCAC for total strikeouts, with 13 collected on the season. She also was 19th in PCAC for innings pitched, as she pitched for 36.2 innings in 2019. Her best game was on April 12th, at home against Mt. San Jacinto, where she had 3 at bats, 3 runs, 3 hits, 1 double and 3 RBIs.
Sophomore shortstop and right-handed pitcher, Brian Alcorn (Indio H.S.) received an Honorable Mention as she placed 10th in PCAC in assists, collecting 62 on the season. She also placed 6th in PCAC in both, triples with 4, and stolen bases, as she stole 15 bases on the season. She led her team in runs, crossing home plate 44 times during the 2019 season. Her best game was March 23rd, at home against La Valley where she had 4 at bats, 2 runs, 4 hits, 1 triple, and 1 RBI.
Freshman catcher Natalie Avila (Rancho Mirage H.S.) also received an Honorable Mention as she placed 7th in the PCAC for total out puts will 141. Her best defensive game was on February 20th, at Victor Valley, where she had 12 total chances and 12 put-outs, earning her a 1.0 fielding percentage. Her best game on offense was on February 1st, at home, against San Bernardino Valley, where she had 3 at bats, 3 runs, 3 hits, 2 doubles, and 4 RBIs.
Also receiving an Honorable Mention was sophomore first baseman and left fielder Mya Martinez (Indio Shadow Hills) as she led Desert in put-outs with 157 collected on the season. Her best game on defense was on March 4th, at home, against Moorpark, where she had 12 total-chances and 12 put-outs earning her 1.0 fielding percentage on the day. Her best game on offense was on April 15th, at San Bernardino Valley, where she had 3 at bats, 2 runs, 3 hits, and 2 RBIs.
Freshman second baseman Jacqueline Bolha (Yucca Valley H.S.) received an Honorable Mention as she placed 12th in PCAC and second on the team in stolen bases, as she stole a total of 12 bases. She also finished 3rd on the team for total put-outs with 61. Her best game on offense was on April 5th, at home, against Imperial Valley, where she had 5 at bats, 2 runs, 1 hit, and one triple. Her best game on defense was March 23rd, at home against LA Valley, where she had 7 total chances, 3 put-outs, and 4 assists, earning her a 1.0 fielding percentage.
Wrapping up PCAC honors for the Roadrunners was freshman left fielder Giselle Maldonado (Rancho Mirage H.S.) who received an Honorable Mention. Her best game on defense was on April 15th, at San Diego Mesa, where she had 3 total chances, 2 put-outs, and 1 assist, earning her a 1.0 fielding percentage.
