COD Softball grabs sweep of Panthers, 1-0 and 4-3

COD (7-9; 5-1) took a commanding lead in the Conference standings with a double header sweep of the Chaffey Panthers of Rancho Cucamonga (8-10; 2-2), 1-0 and 4-3.

Desert had to go extra innings in game one to secure the win. After sophomore right handed starting pitcher Amaya Magana (La Quinta H.S.) tossed nine shutout innings, working her way around ten hits, Magana would punch a one out single to center to start the ninth. A sacrifice bunt moved her to second with two out and a single to center by sophomore catcher Beyonce Mondragon (Thermal Coachella Valley) put her on third. Sophomore center fielder Annabelle Amador (Indio Shadow Hills) poked a single to right to score Magana, giving the Roadrunners a win over Chaffey.

The Roadrunners first played against Chaffey in 1977 and have an overall record of 27-41 against the Panthers and a 17-15 record at home.

The next game for Desert will be played on Wednesday, March 29th at 2p against the San Bernardino Valley Indians. The Roadrunners first played against San Bernardino Valley in 1981 and have an overall record of 42-28 against the Indians and a 23-12 record at home.
