COD Softball splits double header with Griffins, 6-5 & 1-0

COD (1-5) finally broke through, grabbing their first win of the 2024 season on a walk-off hit in the bottom of the seventh, to give the home side a 6-5 win, then the Roadrunners were no-hit for six innings, falling to the Grossmont Griffins of La Mesa (1-12) in the nightcap, 1-0.

The Roadrunners first played against Grossmont in 1988 and have an overall record of 11-11 against the Griffins and a 3-3 record at home.

Freshman shortstop Rebecca Perez (Palm Springs H.S.) went 2 for 3 with a run batted in out of the 2 hole in the lineup and freshman catcher Jaylene Ramos (Yucca Valley H.S.) went 2 for 2 with a run scored and 2 walks out of the clean-up spot. Freshman right-handed starting pitcher Arissa Gonzalez (Thermal Coachella Valley) was dynamic in the circle and at the plate, going 2 for 4 with a run scored and 2 RBIs, but also tossing a complete game, striking out 4 on her way to the first win of 2024.

The next game for Desert will be at the Santa Ana Dons on Wednesday, February 28th at 2p. The Roadrunners first played against Santa Ana in 1985 and have an overall record of 4-12 against the Dons and a 3-3 record at Santa Ana, the most recent time Desert defeated the Dons was on February 3, 2020. The next home game for Desert will be in three weeks, to be played on Saturday, March 16th at 12p & 2:30p when the Roadrunners host the Glendale Vaqueros for a double header. The Roadrunners first played against Glendale in 1991 and have an overall record of 11-6 against the Vaqueros and a 4-3 record at home. Desert is currently on a 5-game winning streak over the Vaqueros dating back to 2019.
