2020 will mark Garrett Estrin’s fourth season as Head Coach for College of the Desert's Softball program, compiling a 33-64 overall record.

The 2019 season saw the Roadrunners go 19-17 overall and 9-7 in the final season of the PCAC tied for fourth place, as they exited they took some awards with them. Lauren Robinson was recognized as the Player of the Year as well as the most Lady Roadrunners on the all PCAC team. In the 2019 campaign Robinsons stat line was incredible as batter she hit .536 (#5 in the state, #1 in So Cal), led the team with 3 Home Runs, led the team in hits with 52, also 42 RBI’s, OBP .600, SLG % .866, on the defensive side she went had12 wins, 2 saves and struck out 101 batters in 134.2 innings as the #1 COD Pitcher. Robinson also was acknowledged as California Community College Fastpitch Coaches Association (3CFCA) Player of the Week for Week 8, as well as PCAC Player of the Month for March of 2019. This all compiled into her being selected to the All – State team as one 18 total student / athletes on that illustrious list. Academically Robinson also earned EASTON / NFCA ALL-AMERICA SCHOLAR-ATHLETE AWARDS

In 2018 four players received PCAC Honorable Mention Accolades, most notably on the field, sophomore short stop Jada Toland (Indio Shadow Hills) was named honorable mention all-Pacific Coast Athletic Conference. She led the team with 12 stolen bases, finished with 16 runs batted in and 25 hits grabbing 2 doubles and 2 triples, Toland finished with .338 batting average while participating in 25 of the 33 games on the season as a dual sport athlete at COD all while being the starting point guard in Basketball. At the conclusion of the season Toland was awarded as a scholar athlete as well being named to the Academic All – State Team with a minimum 3.5 GPA and a season of competition completed.

In the Lady Roadrunners first season of competition in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference they finished 8th overall out of nine teams. Estrin placed four representatives onto PCAC All-Conference teams in 2017 with Malissa "Moo" Nielsen (Palm Desert H.S.) with the center-fielder being named second team all-Pacific Coast Athletic Conference. She finished tied for 4th in Conference and 49th in the state with 3 triples on the season, Nielsen finished 13th in the Conference with .419 batting average and led COD in hits with 28. She had eight multi-hit games on the season.

Currently Estrin also serves in several different capacities as Head Coach for Women’s Soccer at COD earning 2018 PCAC Coach of the Year Honors and Regional Coach of the Year Finalist. Also Estrin serves as the Women’s Soccer regional representative for the Inland Athletic Conference.

Currently Estrin sits 2nd among all time wins for COD Women’s Soccer and they earned the programs first winning season in 2018 since the 1999 campaign.

Estrin served as the first Varsity Girls Head Coach at Rancho Mirage HS from 2014 - 2018, leading the program to CIF berths in its first four varsity seasons and one CIF Southern Section Semi-Final appearance, with a total record of 53-34-13. He earned back to back DeAnza League Championship in 2017 and 2018. He had three straight seasons of 9 wins in league from 2016 – 18, coached three All-CIF selections, 10 Soccer Coaches Association selections, four DeAnza League MVPs and 32 All-League selections. In the spring of 2016 Estrin spent time as a Junior Varsity/Varsity Assistant Softball Coach at RMHS and had spent time volunteering in 2017 to the Rancho Mirage High School Softball program.

Coach Estrin has spent nine years coaching youth Softball at the Palm Springs Youth League and Palm Desert Pony League. As well Estrin spent time coaching Baseball for two season at his alma mater Palm Springs High School, and 1 season at West Torrance High. He served as area coordinator for the MLB Pitch, Hit & Run program specifically for Softball, sending regional finalist to the Inland Empire 66ers Stadium & Dodger Stadium

Favorite baseball memories have been as a bat boy in Spring Training for the then California Angels & Palm Springs Angels. His list includes making CIF in his senior season of 1995, facing off against former MLB’s Jeff Weaver at Fresno State in Fall ball in 1996. He spent time working for the Dodgers in Public Relations, conducting work in the press box, clubhouse pre and post-game. Estrin fondly recalls as a young boy with his family being able to see Rod Carew get his 3,000 hit in Anaheim vs the Twins. Also seeing Dennis Martinez pitch a perfect game for the Montreal Expos vs the Dodgers in LA, and most recently & most fond of all being able to attend the World Series in 2017 in LA Game #2 LA v Houston with his Dad for his 74th Birthday with his older brother. All these were seen in person, baseball being our national past time has brought so many memories playing & watching.

Upon returning to the Coachella Valley in 2002, Coach Estrin accepted the position of Head Men’s Soccer Coach at College of the Desert; he served in that role for the 2002 & 2003 campaigns.

Estrin is a 2000 graduate of Cal State University Dominguez Hills with a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration. He was a three-year starter and three-time captain for the Toros, playing from 1997 - 2000. Also in 2000, Estrin earned All-NCAA Tournament team accolades. He was ranked 6th in the NCAA in 2000 with a 0.59 GAA, winning the 2000 NCAA National Championship in a thrilling 2 – 1, four overtime contest over host Barry University. He was a three time CCAA player of the week and was awarded the CSUDH play of the year in 1998 and 1999. He finished his career starting in 55 of 59 matches for the Toros, playing 5,221 career minutes in the goal, ranking 2nd in CSUDH in wins at 34, and totaling 16.5 shutouts. During his last year as a student on the CSUDH campus Estrin earned the 2000-01 Dr. Richard Butwell Senior Award; given in recognition for dedication to the university, community service, and academic commitment.

Estrin is married to the former Mary Helen Latosquin, he proposed to his high school sweetheart on the field in college after shutting out CSU Bakersfield 2-0 in 1999. The couple has enjoyed getting involved with many charities through Southern California, most notably the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Orange County and Inland Empire. This is where they both together over a two period helped raise over $8,000 for the foundation, while they both competed in running and completing Marathons for the organization. To date Coach Estrin has run five full marathons; he has also enjoyed serving on the Palm Springs Mounted Police Search and Rescue Unit from 2008 - 2104. The Estrin’s have two children: a daughter and son.
