COD (0-2) ended up face-to-face with one of the best teams in the state as they fell to Long Beach City and Rio Hondo in the Mt. SAC Tip-Off Classic.

In the opening round of the Mt. SAC Tip-Off Classic, Desert found themselves in a tough spot early against the Long Beach City Vikings (3-0), as the Roadrunners fell, 99-41.

Sophomore starting guard Mercades Young (Moreno Valley Vista Del Lago) was the leading scorer for the Roadrunners, with 11 points on 3 of 5 shooting from the field and shooting 2 of 3 from three-point range. Sophomore starting guard Jada Toland (Indio Shadow Hills) led the team at the free throw line, shooting 6 of 6 and sophomore starting forward Kaitlyn Cox (La Quinta H.S.) led the team in total rebounds, with six. Freshman center Destiny Fraizer (Blythe Palo Verde Valley) came off of the bench to contribute five points on 2 of 6 shooting, to lead all Desert bench players, along with six boards and a blocked shot and sophomore guard Yesenia Velazquez-Hernandez (Thermal Desert Mirage) led the team with three steals off of the bench.

On the consolation side of the bracket, the Roadrunners were matched-up with the Rio Hondo Roadrunners (1-2), falling in the matchup of Roadrunners, 65-33.

Once again, the leading scorer for Desert was Young, who put up 13 points on 5 of 21 shooting and Cox led the team with nine total boards. Toland led the team in assists, with three, and steals, with four and freshman forward Marisa Givens (Palm Desert H.S.) was the leading scorer off of the bench with four points on 2 of 4 shooting.
