COD Women’s Basketball participates in LA Southwest Tournament

COD (0-6) ended up face-to-face with some big competition as they fell to LA Southwest and Barstow in the LA Southwest Tournament.

In the opening round of the LA Southwest Tournament, Desert found themselves in a tough spot early against the LA Southwest Cougars (3-4), as the Roadrunners fell, 80-55.

Freshman starting guard Kiera Duran (Garden Grove Bolsa Grande) led the team in rebounds (5) and assists (2) adding 13 points. Sophomore guard Mercades Young (Moreno Valley Vista Del Lago) was the leading scorer for the Roadrunners, with 20 points off the bench shooting 4 of 11 with 2 of 7 from three point range and leading the team with two steals.

On the consolation side of the bracket, the Roadrunners were matched-up with the Barstow Vikings (3-2), falling in the matchup, 70-59.

Once again, the leading scorer for Desert was Young, who put up 17 points on 5 of 15 from beyond the arc shooting 6 of 19 and sophomore guard Jada Toland (Indio Shadow Hills) led the team in assists (6) and steals (3). Freshman forward Julie Rodriguez (Indio Shadow Hills) went 4 of 7 beyond the arc shooting 5 of 9 adding 15 points.
