COD (2-13) collected their first home win of the 2017-18 season as they wrapped up their non-Conference schedule with a hard fought win over the San Diego Mesa Olympians (1-13), 51-46.

The Roadrunners would open the game on a 10-1 run, maintaining an eight-point lead at the end of the first quarter, 20-12. Unfortunately, Desert stopped scoring, in the second half. After a layup by freshman starting guard Kiera Duran (Garden Grove Bolsa Grande), giving the Roadrunners a 22-12 lead, the Olympians rolled to a 9-0 run, getting Mesa to within one-point, 22-21. Eventually both teams would go into the break with Desert holding onto a delicate three-point lead, 30-27.

That three point lead held for over two minutes into the second half, then with 6:29 left in the game, Mesa took their first lead, 31-30. With 2:39 left in the third quarter, sophomore starting guard Jada Toland (Indio Shadow Hills) hit a huge three-point shot from the far corner of the arc, tying the game at 36-36 and moments later freshman center Destiny Fraizer (Blythe Palo Verde Valley) hit a put back jumper to give Desert the lead, 38-36. A lead they would never relinquish, as the team held a narrow advantage throughout the fourth quarter, taking the game, 51-46.

Sophomore starting forward Mercades Young (Moreno Valley Vista Del Lago) led the Roadrunners with 15 points on 5 of 20 shooting, including going 3 of 11 from three-point range and Toland added a huge 14 point performance on 5 of 14 shooting, including eight total rebounds and tying two other teammates with two steals, to lead the team.

Duran contributed nine points on 4 of 8 shooting, grabbing eight boards and leading the team with two big blocks and freshman starting guard Vanessa Madera (Thermal Coachella Valley) joined freshman guard Brandie Lopez (La Quinta H.S.) to lead the team with four assists.

Fraizer put up eight points off of the bench, on 4 of 8 shooting and sophomore forward Angie Pinson (La Quinta H.S.) came off of the bench to lead the team in boards with nine in the win.
