COD Women’s Basketball celebrates Sophomore Night against the Comets

COD (2-21, 0-7) faced off with the number one team in the state on Sophomore Night, as they closed out the home slate of games on the 2018 calendar, falling to the Palomar Comets (26-1, 6-1), 81-45.

The Roadrunners played a decent game against a tough Comets squad, which is itching for a #1 seed in the SoCal Regional Playoffs next week. Desert led in shooting percentage (40.5% to 36.4%), in three-pointers made (29.4% to 25.9%) and free throw percentage (66.7% to 52.9%).

The sophomores led the way for the Roadrunners on their final night in a home game uniform for Desert, as starting forward Mercades Young (Moreno Valley Vista Del Lago) led the team with 16 points on 5 of 11 shooting, including a perfect 4 for 4 from the charity stripe and starting guard Jada Toland (Indio Shadow Hills) added 10 points on 4 of 11 shooting.

Sophomore starting forward Angie Pinson (La Quinta H.S.) led the team in total rebounds with seven and freshman starting guard Vanessa Madera (Thermal Coachella Valley) led the team with three steals and two blocked shots.

Freshman guard Kiera Duran (Garden Grove Bolsa Grande) led the team in assists with five and freshman forward Tanner Rodriguez (Newport Beach Newport Harbor) led the bench with six points on 3 of 3 shooting from the field.

The final game for the 2018 season for College of the Desert Women's Basketball will be on the road on February 16th at 5p, where they will wrap-up Pacific Coast Athletic Conference-North Division (PCAC-North) against the San Bernardino Valley College Wolverines. Hope to see you there.
