COD Women’s Basketball participates in Pasadena City Classic, Cox named All-Tourney

COD (0-4) travelled to Pasadena City College to participate in the Lancer Classic, facing Sequoias, San Diego City and Imperial Valley.

Sophomore forward Kaitlyn Cox (La Quinta H.S.) was named to the All-Tournamnet team averaging 10 points, 9 rebounds and 3 steals throughout the course of the tournament.

The Roadrunners would meet College of the College of the Sequoias Giants (4-2) on the first day of competition. Desert would struggle to put points on the board in the first half of play, scoring 9 to the Giant's 34. In the second half, Desert was able to add 25 points to the board, more than double their first half score. Out of the nine players on the bench for the Roadrunners, eight of them were able to score and each grabbed at least two rebounds. Sophomore guard Zuri Outlaw (Corona) would lead the Roadrunners with 10 points and tie for top rebounds, grabbing six.

Sophomore center Destiny Frazier (Blythe Palo Verde) was able to energize Deserts defense by protecting the basket, collecting the game high of two blocks. Both Frazier and sophomore guard Vanessa Madera (Thermal Coachella Valley) would finish the game tying for second in scoring for the Roadrunners with five points each. The Roadrunners would take their second loss of the season, 89-32.

In their second game at the Round Robin Classic, Desert would face the San Diego City Knights (2-1). Frazier would lead the team in points with 11 and had 2 blocks tying with a member of the Knights for the game high. Freshman forward Kaitlyn Cox (La Quinta H.S.) unleashed for 10 points, seven rebounds, and five steals. Although sophomore guard Kiera Duran (Garden Grove Bolsa Grande) was able to add eight points, eight rebounds and five steals herself, Desert lost 66-45.

The Roadrunners would compete against the Imperial Valley Arabs (1-2) on the last day of the tournament. Cox would continue her domination of the paint by collecting her first double-double of the season, scoring 18 points with 14 rebounds and had 3 steals. Duran would also score in the double digits, putting up 16 points, grabbing 5 rebounds and had 4 assists. Out of the nine players for Desert, eight of them scored and every one of them grabbed a rebound. The Roadrunners would finish the game going 66.7% for free-throws, forcing their way to the line for a total of 16 points, outscoring the Arabs at the free-throw line. It would not be enough; Imperial Valley took the game 68-54.

Kaitlyn Cox would be named to the All-Tournament Team for the Pasadena City College Round Robin Classic, as she collected a total of 30 points, 28 rebounds, and nine steals throughout the tournament.

The next tournament for your Roadrunners Women's Basketball team will be on the road at the Santa Ana Dons Tournament, taking place from November 29 to December 1.
