COD Women’s Basketball gets close in hard fought loss to Jaguars, 89-73

COD (1-20) received some good contributions from their starters, but the Southwestern Jaguars of Chula Vista (14-8) used a big first half and the Roadrunners fell, 89-73.

Desert would go into half time down, 45-26, then win the third quarter, 28-22, but too many turnovers cost the Roadrunners down the stretch, as Southwestern scored 30 points off of turnovers. Falling short on the boards also proved to be costly, as Desert lost "The Battle of the Boards," 62-51.

Sophomore starting guard Vanessa Madera (Thermal Coachella Valley) had her second best scoring performance of the season, with 19 points on 5 of 14 shots from beyond three-point range, leading the team in assists and 4 for 4 from the free throw line.

Sophomore starting guard Zuri Outlaw (Corona H.S.) also had her second best scoring night of the season, with a 16 point game on 6 of 13 shooting and 4 of 5 from the free throw line and freshman starting forward Kiley Pitts (Yucca Valley H.S.) had her best night of the season, with 12 points on 6 of 14 shooting and tied for the team lead with nine total boards on the night.

Sophomore guard Alissa Munayco (Indio Shadow Hills) contributed nine points off of the bench and was a perfect 6 of 6 from the free throw line.
