COD Women's Golf opened up the 2017 season with a new head coach, Roadrunners alumnus Erin Lind, and a tough tournament, as the team finished 4th and sophomore Li Chi Liu (Palm Desert H.S.) collected a 3rd place individual finish.

The Roadrunners sent five participants to its first event, which was hosted at two different courses over a two-day period. Day one was at the par-72 Olivas Links Golf Course and day two was at the par-72 Buenaventura Golf Course, both venues were in Ventura.

This opening tournament really brought out the heavy hitters, as the past two CCCAA State Champions were represented, the Sierra Wolverines from Rocklin and the Santa Barbara City Gauchos, along with six Western State Conference teams. The Roadrunners were the only representative from the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference at this event.

Desert would finish with 676 points over the two-day tournament, 21 strokes back of third place finisher, College of the Canyons.

Liu resumed her dominance from the 2016 season, as she shot a one-over 73 on day one and an even par 72 on day two, giving her a total of 145 and putting her two strokes ahead of her nearest competition.

Freshman Zoe Walker (Palm Desert Xavier Prep.) shot an 84 on day one and an 85 on day two, finishing 2nd on the team and freshman Natalie Brugler (Santa Cruz Soquel) shot an 82 on day one and an 88 on day two for 3rd on the team.

Shooting a 192 for the two-day tournament was freshman Vivica Garcia (Thermal Coachella Valley) and sophomore Alexa Perez (Indio Shadow Hills) shot a 222 to wrap up the two day event for the Roadrunners.

COD will make their next appearance at Tahquitz Creek Golf Course in Palm Springs on Friday, September 1 as they begin the Desert Classic.
