COD Women's Golf grabs 4th place finish at Ventura

COD Women's Golf opened up the 2018 season with a tough tournament, as the team finished 4th and sophomore Natalie Brugler (Santa Cruz Soquel) collected a 7th place individual finish on day two.

The Roadrunners sent four participants to its first event, which was hosted at two different courses over a two-day period. Day one was a scrimmage at the par-72 Olivas Links Golf Course and day two was the round that counted and was at the par-72 Buenaventura Golf Course, both venues were in Ventura.

This opening tournament really brought out the heavy hitters, as the 2016 and 2017 CCCAA State Champions were represented, the Sierra Wolverines from Rocklin and the Santa Barbara City Gauchos, along with six Western State Conference teams. The Roadrunners were the only representative from the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference at this event.

Desert would finish with 674 points over the two-day tournament, which was two strokes better than the Roadrunners 2017 appearance and only three strokes back of third place finisher, Santa Barbara City. College of the Canyons would win the event with 614 points.

Sophomore Zoe Walker (Palm Desert Xavier Prep) led the way for the Roadrunners in total score, shooting a 153. Walker shot a five-over 77 on day one and a four-over 76 on day two. Brugler shot a 13-over 85 on day one and an impressive two-over 74 on day two, giving her a total of 159.

Freshman Emma Sorenson (Vancouver (WA) Prairie) shot an 87 on day one and an 80 on day two and sophomore Vivica Garcia (Thermal Coachella Valley) shot a 195 to wrap up the two day event for the Roadrunners.

COD will make their next appearance at Tahquitz Creek Golf Course in Palm Springs on Friday, August 31 as they begin the Desert Classic.
