COD Women’s Golf wins at Ironwood, Walker finishes 1st

COD Women's Golf participated in their third event of the 2018 season, as the team won and sophomore Zoe Walker (Palm Desert Xavier Prep) collected a 1st place individual finish.

The Roadrunners sent five participants to its first event on the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference (PCAC) calendar, which was hosted at the par-72 the Ironwood Country Club - North Course in Palm Desert.

All four PCAC teams participated in this event, with the Roadrunners hitting 69 strokes ahead of their nearest competition, as Cuyamaca and Palomar both finished with 394 points, Desert would finish with 325 points.

"We played really well today," commented head coach Erin Lind, "we were very balanced today. So we didn't have a big difference between our first and our fourth player. Which is a big thing, as we need to bring those averages closer together. So if we can stay balanced all year, we have a pretty good shot of being successful this year."

Walker resumed her dominance from the Desert Classic, as she shot a two-over 74, which was six-strokes better than her teammate, sophomore Natalie Brugler (Santa Cruz Soquel), who finished second individually with a fantastic, eight-over 80.

Freshman Dagmar Urbankova (Brno, Czech Republic) finished tied for third individually, as she shot a nine-over 81 and freshman Emma Sorenson (Vancouver (WA) Prairie) shot a 90.

Shooting her best round of 2018, sophomore Vivica Garcia (Thermal Coachella Valley) wraped up the day for the Roadrunners, shooting a 91.

Coach Lind commented later on how the roster is balancing out so far in 2018, "It's really good, even on their 'bad' days, they're better than I've seen a lot of the other teams. So, if we can reduce our big numbers and take some of our higher scores and lower them, we'll complete at a good level."

COD will make their next appearance in the second PCAC event for 2018, at The Country Club at Soboba Springs in San Jacinto on Monday, September 10.
