COD Women's Golf collects strong 2nd place finish at North-South Invitational

COD Women's Golf showed they are a team to be reckoned with as they held onto a second place team finish at their fifth event of the 2018 season at the North-South Invitational in Morro Bay.

The Roadrunners sent six participants to its fifth event, which was hosted at the par-72 Morro Bay Golf Course on the Central California coast over a two-day period.

This tournament really brought out all the premier teams in California and is a considered to be a barometer on how the regional and state championships may pan out. The defending CCCAA State Champions were there, the Modesto Blue Devils, the 2016 and 2017 CCCAA State Champions were represented, the Sierra Wolverines from Rocklin and the Santa Barbara City Gauchos, along with five Western State Conference teams. The Roadrunners were the one of two representatives from the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference at this event.

Desert would finish with 650 points over the two-day tournament, which was 63 strokes better than the Roadrunners 2017 appearance and nine strokes ahead of third place finisher, Sierra. The Canyons Cougars would win the event with 630 points.

Freshman Dagmar Urbankova (Brno, Czech Republic) led the way for the Roadrunners in total score, shooting a 160 and finishing 8th individually. Urbankova shot a six-over 78 on day one and a ten-over 82 on day two.

Sophomore Zoe Walker (Palm Desert Xavier Prep) shot a ten-over 82 on day one and an eight-over 80 on day two, giving her a total of 162.

Freshman Emma Sorenson (Vancouver (WA) Prairie) and sophomore Natalie Brugler (Santa Cruz Soquel) both shot a 164. Freshman Lilyanna Rodriguez (Palm Desert H.S.) shot a 181 and sophomore Vivica Garcia (Thermal Coachella Valley) shot a 202 to wrap up the two day event for the Roadrunners.

COD will make their next appearance at the Ironwood Country Club - South Course in Palm Desert on Wednesday, September 26 as they continue Pacific Coast Athletic Conference play.
