COD Women’s Golf wins Conference title and sweeps awards

COD Women's Golf showed they are a top contender of a SoCal Regional title as they take a first place finish at the PCAC finals, winning conference Player of the Year, securing a medalist finish and winning Conference Coach of the Year in Banning.

The Roadrunners sent six participants to its conference finals, which was hosted at the par-72 Sun Lakes Country Club in Banning over a two-day period.

Desert would finish with 632 points over the two-day tournament, which was 167 strokes better than the Roadrunners 2017 appearance and 89 strokes ahead of second place finisher, Cuyamaca. The Roadrunners nabbed a conference championship for the first time in recent memory. In 2014, they won a state championship without taking the conference title.

Freshman Dagmar Urbankova (Brno, Czech Republic) shot a 148 on the weekend, shooting two-over 74 on both days, seven strokes ahead of the next finisher, grabbing the first place finisher's medal.

Sophomore Zoe Walker (Palm Desert Xavier Prep) shot a six-over 78 on day one and an eight-over 80 on day two, giving her a total of 158. Another consistent match, enough to earn her a PCAC Player of the Year title.

Finishing one shot behind walker 159 over the two-day tournament, freshman Lilyanna Rodriguez (Palm Desert H.S.) shot ten-over 82 on day one and five over 77 on day two. Sophomore Natalie Brugler (Santa Cruz Soquel) finished the two-day tournament shooting 167 and sophomore Vivica Garcia (Thermal Coachella Valley) shot 197. Appearing on day two, freshman Emma Sorenson (Vancouver (WA) Prairie) added an 18-over 90 score on the day to wrap up the two day event for the Roadrunners.

COD will make their next appearance at the River Course at the Alisal in Solvang on Sunday, November 4th and Monday, November 5th as they begin SoCal Regionals.
