Women's Soccer Picks Up Sixth Win in Shutting Out San Diego

PALM DESERT, Calif. - College of the Desert women's soccer picked up its sixth win and fourth shutout of the season as they defeated visiting San Diego City College 4-0 Tuesday afternoon in Palm Desert.

Sophomore midfielder Brenda Arauz (Cathedral City, CA/Cathedral City HS) opened the scoring for the Lady Roadrunners in the 13th minute, as she blasted a left-footed shot into the far corner following a nice pass across from fellow midfielder, freshman Monica Monay (Palm Desert, CA/Cathedral City HS).

Monay got on the board herself in the 26th minute, after a beautiful passing play between freshman midfielder Reyna Gutierrez (Desert Hot Springs, CA/DHSHS) and sophomore forward Shadae Brown (Palm Springs, CA/Palm Springs HS) resulted in an easy tap-in.

Freshman forward Alexandra Sanchez (Desert Hot Springs, CA/DHSHS) finished off the game's scoring with a pair of goals in the 78th and 82nd minutes.  Monay notched her second assist of the game on the first goal, while sophomore midfielder Florangelica Coyote (Indio, CA/Shadow Hills HS) got the helper on the second.

Freshmen goalkeepers Britney Vargas (Palm Desert, CA/La Quinta HS) and Brianna Lazzarini (Indio, CA/La Quinta HS) split duties in net, making two and three saves, respectively.

College of the Desert (6-4-1) will be back on the road this Saturday, October 3 for a 5:30 p.m. match against Providence Christian College.
